Yuming Jim Su, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, is a Project Water Resources Engineer with Golder Associates in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey with almost 13 years of experience specializing in stormwater management, design, modeling, and monitoring. Jim’s duties have included performing stormwater management plans, drainage and grading designs, storm water pollution prevention planning, best management practice (BMP) designs, erosion and sedimentation control designs, and hydrology and hydraulic (H&H) analysis for various commercial and industrial sites. Jim also has researched stormwater characteristics, Hydrodynamic separators (HDS) design, BMP monitoring and performance evaluation, and stormwater runoff first flush models.
Dr. Su has worked on various planning projects in states of Ohio, Georgia, New Jersey and states all over the mid—Atlantic region. Jim is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Sigma Xi and Chinese—American Water Resources Engineer Association. Jim received his Bachelors in Environmental Engineering from Beijing University of Technology in People’s Republic of China, earned his Masters in Civil Engineering and his Ph.D. in Integrated Engineering from Ohio University. Jim is also fluent in his native language of Mandarin Chinese and registered as a P.E. in state of Ohio.
Dr. Su is one of the Founding 500 Diplomates of AAWRE since September 2009 and in this interview, Jim shares his thoughts with AAWRE on his career path in civil engineering, his earlier transition from his native China to the U.S., his patent device and hopes for future of civil engineering.
