Paul’s statement for service:

AAWRE is a successful organization not by chance, but due to the dedication of the Board members and staff who donated their time, talent and resources with a passion and commitment for our water resources profession and for our members. Dedication breeds excellence. I believe that AAWRE is an important organization that is greatly valued and is needed now more than ever. Serving it is not a duty, but an obligation.

I am steadfastly dedicated to our noble profession and passionate to serving it, and as a Board member I will work closely with the Board to initiate and support innovations that improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the cause of water resources engineering and best serve the water resources community. I will also work closely with the Board to actively promote the importance of certification to provide professional engineers an opportunity to gain further recognition by the Water Resources Industry.

I consider myself very lucky to be working with remarkable water resources engineering professionals in serving our noble profession.

Steve R. Abt, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, F.ASCE - Emeritus Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Colorado State University – Fort Collins, Colorado

Steve’s statement for service:

It is my desire to be considered a nominee to serve on the American Academy of Water Resources Engineering (AAWRE) Board of Trustees. I served as the President-elect and President of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI- ASCE) when AAWRE was established and am a Founding Diplomate of AAWRE. I have been a strong supporter of the concept of advanced professional certification and would now like the opportunity to take a more active role in advancing the profession through AAWRE.

I retired from Colorado State University (CSU) as an Emeritus Professor after 35 years of service and from the U.S. Army/Army Reserve after 38 years of service to our nation in the Engineer Regiment. I believe that in my new role as a Senior Research Scientist at CSU, I will have time to devote to AAWRE and associated activities. Further, serving on the Board of Trustees provides me a means of giving back to the profession that provided me a rewarding and meaningful career in water resources engineering.

Thank you for your consideration as I have the interest, time and energy to serve.

Dale’s statement for service:

I have been an ardent supporter of specialty certification for many years, first achieving specialty certification with the American Academy of Environmental Engineers some 25 years ago. I subsequently represented ASCE on the AAEE Board of Directors for two terms. In the early 2000’s, I chaired ASCE’s Task Committee that resulted in the formation of Civil Engineering Certification, Inc., the home of specialty certification within the ASCE family. I subsequently served as the founding President of CEC, Inc. and on the CEC board during the formation of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers as well as the other CEC academies, the Academy of Geo-Professionals and the Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers

I currently represent CEC as the official delegate to the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards, the accreditation body for technically oriented specialty certification programs. I have a thorough understanding of specialty certification and believe that I can contribute to the goals of improving the practice, elevating the standards, and advancing the profession of water resources engineering. Professional certification has a significant role in ASCE’s “raise the bar” initiative. I am committed to furthering the role of AAWRE through the growth of the academy with qualified and motivated Diplomates. I would be honored to serve on the Board of AAWRE.
