Dear Diplomates,

Welcome to the first edition of the AAWRE President’s Letter for 2016.  Our goal is to send out a quarterly letter to all AAWRE that will be both informative and concise.

By now we hope that you have received your D.WRE renewal notice.  They were sent via email on February 22nd.  If you haven’t received a notice, after checking your spam folder, please contact Deb Connor ([email protected]) and she will be sure to update (if needed) the email address we have on file and send you another notice.  The fee is $125 and AAWRE will now only require 20 hours of PDHs (30 was required before).  Please submit your renewal form online as soon as possible.  The online form can be found here: https://secure.asce.org/ebusiness/default.aspx?TabId=229&ProductId=186181148

As you are probably aware, the EWRI Congress is coming up in a couple of months.  It will be held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida May 22-26th.  AAWRE will be having an induction ceremony on the evening of Monday, May 23rd as well as Ethics and Expert Witness Training during the conference.  In addition, AAWRE Panel Exams will be held on Sunday, May 22nd.  We hope that you’ll be able to join us for some or all of the events as well as stop by the booth to meet the new AAWRE staff, Brian Sien, CEC Senior Manager and Deb Connor, CEC Administrator.  You can find out more about the Congress and register here: http://www.ewricongress.org/

If you would like to get more involved with AAWRE and its committees, there are plenty of opportunities for you.  We have nearly a dozen, including: Admissions, Awards, Bylaws, Eminence, Ethics and Education, International and Marketing.  A full list of committees and their members can be found here: http://www.aawre.org/about-us/aawre-committees

As a reminder, AAWRE’s Objectives are:

  • Identifying and certifying engineers with specialized knowledge in water resources for the benefit of the public.
  • Recognizing the ethical practice of water resources engineering at the expert level.
  • Enhancing the practice of water resources engineering.
  • Supporting and promoting positions on water resources issues important to the public health, safety and welfare.
  • Encouraging life-long learning and continued professional development.

Our Mission is to:

Provide excellence in leadership by elevating the professional practice of water resources engineering through advanced certification, continuing education, and ethical practice.

Our Vision is:

Board Certified Water Resources Engineers are global leaders serving society in advancing sustainable management of the world’s water.

Finally, I encourage each of you to recruit well qualified water resources engineers to apply to become D.WRE’s.  As they say, there’s strength in numbers and the more Diplomates we have, the more impact we can make in the world around us.  Ultimately, we want companies to promote certification in career development plans and as a factor when weighing qualifications within procurement plans for professional engineering services.
