Message from AAWRE President Vijay Singh
Dear Fellow Diplomates: It is an honor and a privilege for me to serve as the 2019-20 AAWRE President. As we begin the 16th year of operation of the AAWRE, on behalf of the AAWRE Board, Committees and staff, I would like to thank the immediate Past-President Joe Manous and the out-going Past-President Roger Kilgore for their leadership and service to our Academy with distinction and dedication. Also, we welcome our new AAWRE Board member Ruth Ayn Hocker.
Over the past year, the AAWRE Board members, committees, and staff have worked to increase the visibility of Board Certification for our AAWRE Diplomates through various initiatives and activities.
This past year, we recognized outstanding professional engineers with the Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) Board Certification, for their advanced knowledge and expertise in the field of water resources engineering. We honored these outstanding leaders during the 2019 EWRI Congress in Pittsburgh with our annual Diplomate Induction Ceremony and also recognized our inaugural Outstanding Research & Innovation Award recipient, Dr. Ralph Wurbs; the Outstanding Practitioner in Water Resources Engineering Award recipient, Dr. Ray Walton, and Service to the Academy Award recipient Ms. Kay Whitlock. These awards recipients are an inspiration to all of us. The AAWRE also hosted a special sponsored celebration dinner with ASCE, EWRI, and AAWRE leadership, and special guests in attendance, including the awsrd recipients.
With the launch of our AAWRE LinkedIn company page, we are gaining more visibility and outreach with our organization’s mission and marketing brand. We are grateful you are already following us on LinkedIn. If you are not yet following us, you can do so by clicking here.
For 2020, we will continue to communicate the importance of board certification to employers of professional engineering and agencies responsible for the design, construction, and management of water resources infrastructure, and the value and importance of the D.WRE board certification.
Another top priority for us is to ensure that Diplomates experience value in maintaining the highest standards of our profession, including maintenance of board certification as a Diplomate. You may send me an email at [email protected] or to our staff at [email protected] if you have any questions.
We would welcome your involvement in AAWRE and our committees. There are several opportunities for you to support the advancement of our mission and you can look over the list of the Committees here. Please send us an email if you would like to participate in any of the committees.
Lastly, I encourage you to recruit your well-qualified colleagues and friends to apply to become Diplomates to join the ranks of the very select group of water resources engineers in the world. The requirements are a P.E. license, 10 years of professional experience of which 8 years after the first P.E., and post-undergraduate degree OR 25 years of professional experience. We need you to help us grow.
On behalf of the AAWRE Board of Trustees and staff, I want to wish you a joyous holiday season and the very best in the new year.
Vijay P. Singh, Ph.D., D.Sc.,P.E., P.H., Hon.D.WRE, Dist.M.ASCE
