Dear AAWRE Diplomates: In this unprecedented time globally, we hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe, healthy, and doing well. On behalf of the AAWRE, I want to thank you for your leadership in the water resources profession and for your loyal support of the AAWRE.

As a founding AAWRE board certified Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE), you have been identified as a leader in the water resources engineering community.  You understand the value of board certification in recognizing exceptional expertise and demonstrating the mastery of a specialty in the field of water resources engineering.

I am asking for your help and assistance in advancing our noble profession and contributing to our mission to elevate the standards in water resources engineering. There are several primary ways you can help:

  1. Recruit one fellow colleague who is a Professional Engineer practicing in water resources by sending their resume or CV to us at [email protected];
  2. Championing the D.WRE board certification to your fellow colleagues and other professional engineers practicing in water resources; and
  3. Making a virtual presentation on AAWRE board certification at your company or organization, ASCE/EWRI Branch meetings, or other professional meetings that you attend.

For the past several years, the AAWRE has ramped up efforts to increase the awareness of the D.WRE Board Certification (what it is and what the benefits are), with increased marketing efforts at national conferences, local professional section meetings, and through online social media platforms.

Your assistance will add to our previous efforts at educating water resources professionals and those who hire them, including an active presence at:

  • EWRI 20th World Environmental and Water Resources Congress in Pittsburgh
  • SEDHYD 2019 Conference in Reno
  • HydroVision 2019 Conference in Portland
  • Assoc. of State Dam Safety Officials 2019 in Orlando
  • WEFTEC 2019 Technical Exhibition & Conference in Chicago

At these conferences, the AAWRE had:

  • hosted panel discussions about the role of Board Certification in professional development.
  • presented posters about the importance of Board Certification.
  • participated in the exhibition halls to market the AAWRE.

In addition, AAWRE had hosted free technical webinars in 2019 on:

  • Applications of Remote Sensing to Water Resources Engineering.
  • Recent Developments in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Hydrologic Models.

We have prepared resources for these presentations and other “get the word out” information that can be found at:

As you will see from these recruiting tools, we have summarized the following key benefits of the D.WRE board certification and reasons to promote it:

  1. D.WRE board certification gives you recognition as a leader and expert in water resources engineering.
  2. It demonstrates a mastery of a specialty area within the broad field of water resources engineering.
  3. It exemplifies a strong commitment to professionalism through ethics and continuing professional development requirements.

Thank you for being a founding Diplomate of the AAWRE and for your example in the profession. I encourage you to consider this request to help us improve the awareness, recognition, and the prestige of the AAWRE. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected], if you have any questions or would like to provide any feedback.

On behalf of the AAWRE Board of Trustees, AAWRE Committees and staff, thank you again for your leadership in our great profession and for your loyal support of the AAWRE.

Kind regards,
