November 1, 2012

Dear Fellow Diplomates,

As the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers celebrates our 9th year since our inception, I am honored and excited to serve as your President for 2013. Speaking for the Board of Trustees, we look forward to working with you to steer the continued growth and success of our profession.

I, along with the AAWRE staff and the entire past and present AAWRE Board trustees, extend our sincere gratitude to our out-going Past-President, Mr. S.K. Nanda and Dr. Rao Surampalli- who both have worked tirelessly to shepherd the Academy during our formative years. We also give great thanks to my good friend and immediate past-president, Dr. Bill Espey for guiding us this past year.

Thanks to all of your efforts, we have continued our great strides at the Academy in the continuation of our program, our growth, partnering with other water related organizations, and working on our common goals-to improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the profession of water resources engineering.

We need to acknowledge our “home” in ASCE. It is not an accident that we hold our awards ceremony during the yearly EWRI national conference. Please make sure that you join an Institute when you renew your ASCE Membership (there is no charge). I have been a member of EWRI since its inception and my membership has aided my career. I kindly ask you to continue to support our Academy and our mission by continuing to show your support of the AAWRE in the following ways:

  1. Utilize your D.WRE credential after your name in all of your business correspondence, emails, and business cards.
  2. Recruit and encourage your fellow colleagues and friends to apply to become a Diplomate.
  3. Mark your calendars for May 20, 2013, as AAWRE will host our annual AAWRE Diplomate Induction Ceremony in Cincinnati, Ohio during the 2013 EWRI Congress.
  4. Share your news or achievements with fellow Diplomates and the water resources engineering community by making sure they are included in our AAWRE News. Send email back to: [email protected]
  5. Get involved with the ASCE continuing education program by submitting a proposal for the Distinguished Leader Speaker series. After all, as Diplomates, our voices need to be heard.

We thank you for upholding our higher standard in our great profession and for your support of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers.

From all of us at AAWRE- on behalf of the Board of Trustees, the working committees, and staff- we wish you a joyous holiday season.
