ASCE will conduct their first live-webinar on professional specialty certifications in-depth this Thursday, August 13th from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM EDT.  Through the live webinar, the audience will learn the history and backstory behind ASCE’s professional certification programs- which the AAWRE Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) was the pilot program.  Through the webinar, the participant will learn the advantages to board certification, the requirements, how it advances the profession and the engineers’ professional development.  The webinar will also clear up any misconceptions about certificate programs, certifications and licensure.

The live webinar will be no-cost and will be presented by two distinguished leaders in the engineering profession- Billy Edge, Ph.D., P.E., D.CE, Dist.M.ASCE and Blaine Leonard, P.E., D.GE, F.ASCE.

Billy is a Program Manager for Sustainable Coastal Engineering at the UNC Coastal Studies Institute and works in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University.  His professional interests are in coastal engineering, dredging technology, coastal zone management, hydraulic engineering and modeling of coastal processes.  He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.  He has published extensively with over 100 publications and has made numerous conference presentations both nationally and internationally. In 2007, he received the Outstanding Civilian Service Medal from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and in 1997 received the International Coastal Engineering Award in 1997 from ASCE.  He was the first President of the Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE).

Blaine is the Research Program Manager for the Utah Department of Transportation. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Utah. Blaine served as ASCE President in 2009-2010.  He’s won numerous awards including the William H. Wisely American Civil Engineer Award in 2005 from ASCE, Utah Engineer of the Year in 2009 from the Utah Engineers Council and the 2000 and 2009 Engineer of the year from the Utah Section of ASCE. Blaine is a founding Diplomate in the Academy of Geo-Professionals and holds a P.E. license in addition to his Diplomate, Geotechnical Engineering (D.GE) credential. Blaine is President-Elect of the Board of Trustees of the Academy of Geo-Professionals.
